Most QuickBooks users don’t know that their software has been quietly keeping a detailed journal of every change made to their company file. That journal is the Transaction Log, or TLG file, and it sits right alongside your main company file with the same name but a .TLG extension. Under normal circumstances you’d never need to think about it. But when disaster strikes and you’ve lost transactions that aren’t covered by your most recent backup, the TLG file can be the difference between recovering that data and losing it permanently.

The most common scenario we see is when someone restores from a backup that’s a few days or even weeks old, and then realizes that all the work done between that backup and the restore point is gone. Invoices, payments, journal entries, payroll transactions, all of it wiped out because it only existed in the more recent version of the file. Another frequent situation is accidental deletion, where transactions were removed by mistake and the only record of them lives in the transaction log. In both cases, the TLG file may contain exactly what you need to get that data back.

The challenge is that QuickBooks itself has very limited ability to use TLG files for recovery. The built-in tools aren’t designed for selective transaction extraction or for working with TLG files that are partially damaged. That’s where our expertise comes in. With over 26 years of experience working with QuickBooks data at the lowest level, we can read TLG files directly, identify the transactions that were lost, and restore them into your company file.

To get the best results, we’ll need both your company file (.QBW) and the TLG file from the same folder. We’ll assess what’s recoverable and give you an honest evaluation before any work begins. Recovery outcomes depend on the state and completeness of the TLG file, so we always set clear expectations upfront. If there’s data to recover, we’ll find it. And as with all of our services, if we can’t deliver results, there’s no charge.
